Location? What’s street food like there? New York, you have access to many different kinds of food trucks, everything you can imagine from all over the world, from tacos, ice cream to even lobster! And almost all of the food served it is absolutely delicious.

Occupation: Video Editor at Gawker Media and co-creator of This Is Why You’re Fat website and upcoming book (in stores October 27th!  :) Go buy like 50 copies, they will make great stocking stuffers AAAAND it’s only $9.99 so you won’t go broke when giving your friends and family such a kick ass christmas present.

Favorite type of food: Any type of coffee/mocha flavored Ice cream, without a doubt. I love all different types, I love it in a cup, in a cone, when I’m watching TV alone. I love it on the bus, in bed, for breakfast dinner or lunch ice cream is a must.

Least favorite type of food: For some reason I have never really liked coconut, just never really understood it. To me it tastes like wax shavings from a candle… however as with many things in life

Favorite street cart of all time? What was it? What was the meal? Where? I can’t stand the kabab carts because they smell like rotting carcasses. This is especially bad when foot traffic in the city slows to a standstill and you’re forced to stand there while it envelops you with it’s nasty sent and permeates your clothing and makes you nauseous.

Craziest thing you’ve eaten? This is going to sound so tame, snails. French people know that if you put enough butter and garlic on anything I’m going to eat it.

Is there anything you won’t try? It’s sorta ironic This Is Why You’re Fat features so much bacon and an entire section on hamburgers but to tell you the truth, I have never had either, ever. My parents were Northern California hippy types who raised me nearly vegetarian. I do eat seafood, lots of it, and I’ll try just about anything from urchins, eels to octopus.

If you were to open a street food cart, where would it be and what would you serve? I feel weird stating this in such a public forum and fear someone might steal the idea but just go with me for a second… cereal truck… at 3am you stumble drunk out of a bar and you can make your own type of cereal, choose different types of milks… even chocolate milk!

Any interesting street food stories? Well my favorite cart of all time is the Calexico cart that serves the most amazing quesidilla rolls I’ve ever had. The secret is their “crack sauce”, a creamy and spice chipotle dipping sauce. Absolutely amazing and worth the wait. If you visit the one in SoHo you’re almost sure to see several celebrities pass by while you wait.

When did you first have street food? Tell me about it? I really honestly don’t remember but I believe the best food I’ve ever had from a street cart was in Rosarito Beach Mexico  and had the most amazing fresh fish tacos I’ve ever had, fresh and only $1 each. You could even order Corona’s to wash them down at only $2 a bottle. Heaven.

Got any street food tips? Don’t ever be discouraged by a long line, usually that’s a good sign that the food there is amazing.
