This week we headed to a beautiful cart in a gorgeous city: Skillet Street Food in Seattle, Washington. Owner Joshua Henderson built the cart out of an old Airstream trailer, and dishes out delicious upscale comfort food like duck confit, pasta, and their signature item, a burger with bacon jam.
Post a comment below describing the best topping for a burger.

Burger stuffed with feta and sun-dried tomatoes topped with basil mayonnaise, prosciutto, lettuce and red onion.
I also recently had a burger with cheddar, bbq sauce, cole slaw and sliced pickles which was really good too.
(after a quick google, I found the recipe for the first burger here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network...)
OK, must go to that cart ASAP.
A topping for a burger you say, let's see…
mushrooms, diced peppers and cocoa nibs reduced in burgundy with pepper, chopped celery and a pinch of salt.
There… my invention…. bon appetit.
classic, freshly cut juicy tomato. doesn't get any better than that.
One of my favorites, other than an heirloom tomato as jdn177 suggested, is reduced balsamic caramelized onions with a locally produced fresh sheeps cheese called Firecracker (http://www.greendirtfarm.com/default.php?id=33) The combo gives a good mix of sweet and spice that is great!
There's a place in Newark called Hamburgao that has the best toppings, which are the following:
- Potato stix
- thin ham
- fried egg, partially cooked yolks
- LTO
- mayo
- corn
Delicious!
LOTS of cheese and then jalapenos. I want that extra zing. Gotta have the crunch of fresh onions too. Bad breath? Who cares!
One word: BACON, and lots of it; nothing better than putting more meat on top of meat.
A friend of mine's father made a “Kenney Burger” (his last name) It was always the bomb! It had great flavors, they were distinct but came together to give you unbelievable tastes. It was always on San Francisco Sour Dough bread, Pioneer if it was fresh, not toasted. The hamburger shaped to the bread, cooked to medium, only salt and pepper and a sharp, sharp cheddar melted on top. The toppings are what made it killer, lots of mayonnaise slathered on one side with lots of Bob's Blue Cheese salad dressing on the other, mushed together to make sure the two mingle. Then sliced jalapenos, sliced beef steak tomatoes (fresh from the garden when possible), big slice of red onions and leafs of crisp Romain lettuce. When the cheese is melting place on stack and get messy. Wash down with a cold one.
Mango chutney on a curried turkey burger.
i like mine with extra old cheddar, bacon, kraut, an lots of onions n pickles with hot peppers on the side.
It seem that seatle has the same rules regarding food carts like we do here in ontario.
I had burgers with all sorts of different toppings, they were okay and some are down right strange.
The best burger to me is the CLASSIC mayo mustard ketcup onions pickles lettuce and tomato, yummm!!!!!!
Another way is medium well on the grill and when it is done dip the burger in homeade bbq saucee put the burger back on the grill flip it once one more dip in my homade sauce and then put the burger right onto a steam grilled b
i totally agree its classic all the way. i do love my burger grilled then dipped in bbq sauce with the classic toppings
Keep up the amazing work!!
Thanks Andrew!
black & bleu… yuuu-UMMMM!
Its gotta be burger served on Tuscan hot bread. Bacon, pepper jack cheese, fried jalapeño rings, wasabi mayo, topped off with cool salsa. The burger and all the toppings are hot except for the salsa, which blends in to give you this nice contrast of rich, hot, cold and spicy.
One summer my girlfriend and I decided to take in all of(well most of) the charcoal style burger joints in the greater Toronto area…..toppings are far too many to mention but the ultimate was that simple mouthwatering taste of charred fresh ground beef over an open flame….the toppings are almost secondary BUT that Bacon jam sounds like it would make a return trip with it in tow a summer highlight!!
I NEED some JAM!!!!!man….please…huh…..
Skillet is excellent. Another great Seattle burger is from Lunchbox Laboratory. They make a Dork burger; duck and pork. It has aged cheddar, maple bacon, sauteed onions, and their zillion island dressing on a great kaiser roll. Tasty.
Mmm! That sounds good. Not so heavy, sort of has a Mediterranean flair! Nice.
Wow Oscar! I can't imagine what that would taste like. Have you made it before?
Bacon jam? That is brilliant. I'm not usually a fan of the whole “bacon on anything” trend, but that is a great idea.
This is quite true my friend. Louis Lunch in New Haven, CT (first burger in the states) only puts that on it.
Mmm! That sounds nice. I can see it getting really rich and creamy, which would be nice on a roll with a good amount of crisp. Good call!
Dude – that sounds AMAZING! I'm such a fatty because, while I love the responses with things like goat cheese and what not, when i see mayo and corn and ham, I'm IN!!! Hahaha
Pepper Jack Cheese, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onions, Jalapenos, Pickles, Chipotle Mayo.
Thats my Fav
A girl approving bad breath! My type of lady! Hahaha. That sounds delicious.
Hahaha! Bacon + Bacon Jam + Beef? Haha
I love that you didn't just list the ingredients, but you listed the process. Awesomeness!
Ah interesting George! You took it and flipped it. Turkey burger. Didn't see that coming.
Mmm – that sounds great!
Yea – things are slowly changing, but many cities have yet to fully embrace street vending. :
that's good – have you had it from the brunch box in PDX?
The best topping for a burger is cabernet onions and blue cheese. mmmm…I'm hungry now! Thanks!

[...] is crazy good. And the food – I learned about a street vendor a few blocks from me that serves up duck confit and burgers with bacon jam. Let’s just say I’m in Mr. Delaney’s debt. var ids = new Array; ids.push(2246); [...]
