Today I sent out this tweet through our @VendrTV account on Twitter:

strangest food

And we got tons of responses! So many, that we thought we’d extend it to our blog. So, we’re asking you…

What’s the strangest, most bizzare thing you’ve ever consumed?

Leave your response in the comments. Most bizarre grub wins a VendrTV t-shirt.

That’s a great topic….unfortunately I haven’t ventured out much. Probably just strange mixtures of condiments and such…..I’ll have to think harder about this. I had a buffalo burger once…didn’t care for it

Its a close race between Cajun Catfish, Curry Goat, and Mufongo… for me it was the Mufongo… all were strange at first but the Mufongo was the best tasting and the weirdest at the sametime

    ‘Course…I’m from the south so I’ve eaten all sorts of odd things such as ;

alligator, snake, possum, raccoon, squirrel, pig brains and scrambled eggs, bison, buffalo, goat, water buffalo, elk, moose, various grubs and other insects such as grasshoppers and ants. Sea slug, sea cucumber…okay I’m tired.

Snake Bile soup, jellyfish sushi, vodka with a cobra in it, locust, ants…

I got bored one day and threw the contents of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich into a blender with milk (I didn’t have bread, so I figured the blender would produce something comparable). It was OK.

Close second: I go to this place called East Tokyo Hibachi a lot, and I totally wreck through their sushi menu whenever they have half off Thursdays. One time, I decided to go for their Thai food, and I ordered a fish dish.

The entire fish came out. Fried. Still had its eyes and everything. Totally didn’t expect that.

    Tasted great. Loved it.

Let’s see, roasted Pigs brains, kidneys of all sorts, horse, blood sausage, caribou in Canada, alligator, rattlesnake, fried scorpions in New Mexico, reindeer with lingenberry sauce in Finland, squirrel in upstate PA, haggis (but that’s not too bizarre), and of course, in Philadelphia…scrapple.

I have a friend that made me some dinner one night, and it consisted of:

Ramen noodles, tuna fish, string cheese, salsa, and Goldfish crackers. You cook the ramen, add the tuna, and string cheese, microwave until the cheese melts a bit, then add some salsa and Goldfish crackers.

I ate about two bites, and then set it aside. The Shrimp flavoring and the tuna completely wrong, but it was the string cheese and salsa combo that put me over the edge…

Northern Chinese lamb face salad with jalapenos, onions, garlic, cilantro and chili oil— gutty goodness

Roast cuy (aka guinea pig): Delicious kinda like a really tiny suckling pig

Japanese salted fermented squid guts– not so gutty goodness

    Lamb testes

Thai pickled crab–spicy funky messy, had to wash my hands like four times

Northern Chinese style stewed lamb spine–wonderuful, anise scented, messy as hell

    Ear tacos

Bundiggi. In South Korea they sell steams silk worm larvae in a nutty sweet sauce. They eat these bugs out of a paper carton with toothpicks the same way we eat french fries from a chip stand.

They are definitely an acquired taste.

  • freddychef

from a street vendor….goat brain tacos at the san juan market mexico city….
muktuk, rabbit heads, bugs, grasshoppers, lamb fries, cod tongues, just to name a few

    Where do I begin:

    chocolate covered bacon…yummy!
chocolate covered cherry tomato…dont try i accidently dropped the tomato in melted dark choc and thought why not…oh acid and bitter do not mix…

silkworm larvae…steamed…served as a bar snack in south korea…

last week…i was on jeju island and we ate at a raw fish restaurant…not sure what the fish was but it looked like a woman’s private part and was still alive in its shell when it arrived at the table…i had to scrap it out…harder than trying to get a mussel or oyster out of its shell with just a spoon…it was kinda crunchy…

raw sea squirt…that was really salty and mushy…
raw crab in bibimbap once…not what i expected…and not going back for seconds either…
