Christos’ Falafels (Philadelphia, PA)

20th St & Market St.

In this episode of VendrTV, Dan visits with Gus of Christos’ Falafels in Philadelphia, PA.

Christos’ Falafels can be found at 20th and Market in Philadelphia, and is open weekdays. Get there early because he prepares limited quantities of food, and there’s usually a long line.

  • Another one out of the park and into the street, guys! You never fail to make this foodie ready to travel and visit these places...

Thanks again for another great episode!
  • Ouch! Had a falafel in NYC today. After seeing this I wish I'd been in Philli.
  • @Suikagirl1 - So true. Great job Dan!

I love this guy. I liked the tulips and the hanging boombox. How much time do you typically spend with each vendor? Just one lunch service? How much coordination and correspondence happens beforehand?
  • f.larocca
It is very close to Mama's vegetarian, but is it better? I will see for myself.
  • LarryD
That looks good. Gus puts his heart into it, so I got to try it next time.
  • Nikko
Incredible Flavor! Smokey Grilled Chicken, Crispy and tender.
Falafel is nutty, and crunchy and LOADED with Garlic!
Sides are good. Some days better than others. Random.
Pita and Platter both $10.? Slightly pricey, but this some of the best
food you'll find anywhere in the City and worth it if you consider
    what lunch costs these days.
Awesome! You won't forget it and you'll come back,
but don't plan on making any new friends for a few days...
    GARLiC!!!!
  • maddy
dan!! right on! thanks for turning me on to VendrTV - you've got a great thing going and tastes great, too!
    love from your chapterhouse friend
  • Anne
I love the shows Dan! I have converted my friends into 'Vendy TV-ists'! You now have a small following 'down under'. We just wish we could eat some of the food!
    Lots of love from Australia.

Somehow I missed the past 4 episodes. Good work! This is one of my favorites for sure. Gus is an awesome character for tv and seems full of life. His food looks delicious too.
  • Nykki
hey guys! love the shows, im definitely going to hit them when im in NY or NJ! i visited this vendor yesterday and i remember when you told me about this show dan so i looked it up. im the girl in the blue that you filmed...and im stuffing my face as always. lol. good luck on your next projects!
  • It costs more than most lunch trucks but it is well worth it. In the middle of the winter there will be a line. The food is that good. There have been times when I was eating in a foodier-than-thou restaurant and wish I was eating his food instead.

And you get a bit of a show - "gus" is quite a character.

I have this guy's food almost weekly and it's a real bummer when he's not there. Luckily it doesn't happen very often. I like the fact that while I don't have a choice as to what is available, I have never been disappointed by what I got. Very few chefs can say that.
  • Nina
SO DELICIOUS. There was a side of granny smith apples and jicama today... it was salivating. Thanks for all the street food tips; I never would have known this cart existed!!! I'm going to try the Jamaican one next week! Do more philly episodes! please.
  • Daniel Delaney
Will do Nina! Stay tuned, I think there's a Philly episode coming out in two weeks.
  • Leigh Anne
Christos' is absolutely BRILLIANT food. A good friend introduced me to his cart a few weeks ago and the whole experience -- the fabulous charcoal-fired cart, Gus, and the food itself -- definitely made my entire day. A must for those in and around Philadelphia. So glad to see Gus featured here! Great job, Dan and company!
  • Neek
I waited nearly 30m for him to set up his cart
Only for him to REFUSE to sell me 2 platters,
Because he claimed he must serve everyone in line
one platter before I can get a second?! I’ve seen him sell multiple
    Platters plenty of times...

I’ve been going to his cart for 5 years,
And he knows me. He treats people
Like garbage and gets away with it
Because his food tastes good? No more.

Don’t put up with this guy’s horrible attitude for a plate of
Overcooked chicken and burnt falafel that has way too much
    Garlic.

You don’t know what he puts in his dishes and he wont tell
You. You don’t have to take abuse to eat good food,
    Go elsewhere
  • Daniel Delaney
Oh man! That's horrible. But you know - I disagree. I think the food is stellar and all you're describing is just part of the experience. It's why he's famous! It's his segmentation. :)
  • Neek
DD, the food is excellent at times, other times its just pretty good.
Call it what you like but it was a bad experience for me today,
and i'm a regular customer of his and i've always told people
    to go to him!

What happens the day he puts peanuts or fish in your platter and
you're alergic? you think he'll give you your money back or may
you a special order? You can forget it! The guy makes some delicious food, but he's a horrible business man and a pretty crappy individual as well.
