Fred’s Franks (Wakefield, MA)

Exit 40 off 128

The windows were rolled down as we pulled off at I-128’s exit 40 in Wakefield, MA and as soon as we hit the off ramp my little car was filled with the smells of charcoal and hot dogs. A beautiful smell if I do say so myself.

Order a link and Fred’ll first hand you the bun to fill up with your favorite condiments before plopping a Hot Dog, Kielbasa, Chorico or LinguiƧa that’s been charred to perfection over a huge green egg shaped grill modeled after a kamado.

Massive is an understatement. These dogs are huge, yet to my surprise, people were ordering two or three half pounders at once! Crazy!

“Yo, I'm Habanase!” That was awesome, Dan!

  3. Are you guys on MediaFly ? That video needs to be pumped thru the Roku to the flatscreen, not just on my monitor ! Already sent to the carnivores in my family.

  4. I agree with ridthyevil, Awesome, Habannaise FTW!

I type from Italy. I think this web tv is really a great idea and I enjoy it a lot. It would be interesting to collect street food videos from all over the world. In my country there is an old street food tradition.
    Bye and thanks

The best dog is a Detroit coney dog, with the zesty meaty coney sauce slathered over a natural casing dog to give some textural “snap”.

For just a “plain dog” I love the beef Kosher dogs (Best's or Hebrew National) they serve at Sam's and Costco; so meaty and juicy.

I am a Regular at Fred's. Every Saturday throughout the season. He takes pride in his work and the proof is in the excellent product. I have the same kind of grill he has (Big Green Egg) so I can cook great dogs at home, but it's just not the same.

His dogs and sausage are all top shelf meats to begin with.
I know folks from different parts of the country all have different ideas of what constitutes a great hotdog- No matter what you think you like, you will enjoy and remember Fred's.

If you're driving on 128/95 North between April and November, take Exit 40. He's right off the ramp. easy to get back on the highway.

Love Fred's dogs. Not only the dogs, but the buns are fantastic. A must try. I reward myself every couple of weeks after walking around the lake.
