Kogi BBQ (Los Angeles, CA)

W Olympic Blvd & S Berendo St

No trip to Los Angeles would be complete without a visit to one of the most notable of the new generation of street vendors, Kogi BBQ. At Kogi, Chef Roy melds the flavors of the orient with our neighbors down south, resulting in delicious Korean / Mexican fusion! While there I tried their kimchi quesadillas and short rib tacos, both were out of this world! Next time you’re in LA, be sure to check them out.

Learn more about Kogi online at kogibbq.com and be sure to follow them on Twitter.

  • Great idea! I "fantasized", designed food truck when burned out from tech world, UK. Wanted to offer tasty Asian treats vs horrible canteen food.
  • Love your fun show and concept on street food. I fantasized about a lunch truck when I got burned out from tech world in England. Great to see my "fantasy" is gaining popularity and attention.

Dan, props to you on this venture. The production value is amazing and your "tv" personality is so inviting and dynamic. Kudos. Any plans for a permanent FoodTv show? I'll eat and watch with you all day. ha ha. How you find these places?

I have just come from the Chef's Collaborative Summit in Chicago and I am getting a real feel for street vendors and small businesses that are creating an "underground food movement." Sustainable farmers are linking with these vendors and some Slow Food practices are participating, but the biggest message is that a vendor can feature his/her flavor profile without the need for a conventional restaurant. Dan I commend you for capturing this "Underground Movement." We need to unite the cause and revolutionize the industry.
  • Agreed! Fine words there.

Yes, by all means. Email me.
  • Hey! Thanks for the feedback.

Our leaving out the strong social media attention around Kogi was pretty intentional. It's my feeling that if you look at most of the press they receive, it's focused around that exact aspect. Rarely do I see articles about their food.

But I do understand your point, and appreciate the feedback.
  • Good stuff, can't wait to try the next time I'm in LA. On a side note, I wish you focued a touch more on the unique social media aspect to their business, which is key (as I understand it); and built up the celebrity status and press they've recieved, that way it adds more credibility to what you're doing.

  • Dan, I agree with you in that your show IS about the food; and you did a great job diving more into the history of the truck and about the food aspect which I haven't seen previously. I was just saying that other than a quick one second twitter mention it almost make it look like you don't know about the national fame they have garnered. IMO you could have said something like "You're getting great press about your guerrilla tactics by using Twitter; however you guys really pump out some amazing fusion food; are you sick of hearing about the twitter aspect of your business or is it the old 'any press is good press' axiom?" .....you get the drift.

I see a Seattle to LA road trip in my future. Now I'm hungry... thanks Dan.
  • Yes! You'd be recreating the trip that we took to shoot all these episodes! Please do let me know if you go. :)
