Man Bites Dog (Austin, TX)

South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery

If the Hot Dog isn’t the most iconic of all American fare, I don’t know what is – and Man Bites Dog takes that bun bound love to a whole new level, offering some of the most interesting and unusual toppings I’ve seen to date. While I the Bird Dog, Greek Dog, and Cuban were all great, the Buffalo Hottie was by far my favorite!

I’m originally from Tucson,AZ and I’d like to see your take on a sonoran hotdog.
hot dog wrapped in bacon, covered with beans, avocado, fresh onions, tomatoes, mayo, mustard and jalapeno sauce served in a hot kolache bun.

    Making me hungry already..

Nice video. My suggestion for a signature creation, though I don’t think it will win: how about a basic, natural casing old school dog prepared well and topped with a little bit of mustard? In my opinion the focus should be on the frank, not all kinds of toppings that mask the flavor of a quality dog. Many times less is more.

Ghost dog – All beef frank topped with salsa made w/ ghost chili’s, onions, green pepper, and apples. Add some shredded Mozz cheese and put under the broiler so the cheese melts and bun gets a little toasted.

Philly Dog!- All beef hot dog, Cheeze Whiz, Caramelized onions, long-hot peppers (optional pretzel roll perhaps)

  16. Zack says:

I prefer a Sonoran-dog. These are common throughout southern Arizona including Tucson. This dog is similar to one already mentioned, but adds a few more flavors.

Start with an all beef dog, and wrap it in bacon. Grill so that the bacon is nicely caramelized and holds on tight to the dog. When you place it in the bun, add caramelized onions, pinto beans, green chile (or jalapeno’s if that’s all you can find) and cover with a good amount of monterrey jack cheese. If you find yourself wanting more, you can make a spicy mayo and add that as well.

  17. Gaidig says:

Korean BBQ dog: Beef frank split on the griddle (like the Buffalo Hottie) and filled with kimchee, Korean BBQ sauce, topped with tempura fried onions.

  18. Joe says:

The Shroom Dog – Fried mushrooms, fried onions and swiss cheese melted over the top. The mushroom and swiss burger is so good, why not do it on a dog?
