This Is Why You’re Fat Tour (New York, NY)

Midtown Manhattan

Last week I hit the streets of NYC to participate in This Is Why You’re Fat’s Eat ‘N Tweet street food tour in which six of NYC’s favorite vendors were asked to come up with creations inspired by TIWYF and their newly released book.

Our trip started with a visit to Wafles & Dinges, followed by The Cupcake Stop, The Bistro Truck, NYC Cravings, The Treats Truck and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. Over all the food was fantastic, I just wish I felt as good by the end of the day! I must have put on 10lbs.

Book Give Away

We’ve got three copies of the This Is Why You’re Fat book to give away to you guys. To win, think up an outlandish creation you could imagine a street vendor dishing out. Post it in the comments below. I’ll pick the winners next week.

    Hey Daniel,
Your videos are great! I watched every single one. Just wondering ... while the food always look delicious, why do you always make the tasting part look so...uh...disgusting? Why don't you eat them normally instead of stuffing your face with them? I feel like seeing how messy it is for you to eat street food will discourage people do do so. Just my thought!
  • I know we talked about this, but I'll try and clean it up for you. :)
  • Oh my, that was A LOT of food. Everything looks yummy although it was plenty and then some for one episode, specially that four story hamburger, which along with the cookie nachos are candidates for TIWYF.

    Good episode.
  • Yea - the hamburger was really intense - it totally was the highlight for me. Sad to say, I would love to eat one of those every day.
  • Good "montage" episode covering lots of ground. For my TIWYF inspired creation, is something I call it the "Armed Forces": Which is Land (Army), Sea (Navy), Air (Air Force) (and more land--aka Marines). For the Land, you have a cheeseburger; for Sea you have batter-dipped fish strips (fish and chips style, but strips); for Air you have crispy chicken tenderloins; and for more land BACON!

To assemble start with a toasted bun, spread some mayo on the bottom and layer with some lettuce. Then add the cheeseburger patty. Put alternating strips of the chicken tenderloins and fried fish strips on the cheeseburger; you should have at least two of each. Top with at least 4 strips of bacon; add pickles, tomatoes and a little more mayo on the bun cap (add bbq sauce, ketchup or mustard if preferred)....and enjoy! The mayo goes with everything and I recommend just a little bit of ketchup or bbq sauce which can also compliment all of the protein in the bun.

With every bite you get surf and turf kicked up a notch with the Armed Forces combination.

I would like to see brain sandwhiches and burgoo, and yes these are real dishes that are served in some states along the mississippi.

  • A toasted bagel with a pan fried veal patty and some diced onions would be alright.
