Wafels & Dinges (New York, NY)

Roaming. Follow @waffletruck on twitter.

One of my favorite trucks in all of New York City is Wafels & Dinges, a little bit of Belgium that trolls through the streets of the Big Apple dishing out authentic waffles from two cities in Belgium. In this episode, Thomas DeGeest teaches me a bit about this history of the waffle, as well as it’s city of origin.

  1. My favorite topper is cut pieces of fried chicken with a bourbon maple honey drizzle

I just need a little vendr.tv while eating my waffles and I'm set! (wow, total brown-noser, I am).

No, really, I'm a boring waffle eater. Lots of butter and real maple syrup, YUM! I can do with some whip cream as well.

Great episode as always Dan and crew.

My favorite waffle topper has been Grove Farm's Pure Maple with two delicious slices of maple smoked bacon at the local Farmer's Market here in Seattle. Fried chicken is second, but it doesn't compare to the saltiness of the bacon.

  4. Agree with james. Real Wisconsin butter & maple syrup.

  5. sexycommando says:

I actually like a savory waffle. chunk albacore, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, rosemary herbed butter and lots of cheese. LOTS AND LOTS OF CHEESE..

I LOVE waffles, and miss the Waffle Houses we used to have in MI when I was a kid. First you need REAL maple syrup, none of the fake corn-syrup-with-maple-flavor crap. Yes it costs more, but it's sooooo worth it. My favorite batter has chopped walnuts, chocolate chips, and dried cherries in it. Add some real maple syrup and a little whipped cream and it's amazing!

I love all things sweet, so I don't venture into savory waffle territory… I like my waffles with a good layer of sweet peanut butter (like Skippy), a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a generous amount of syrup. It's even better when the waffle is crispy but starts to soften from the peanut butter and syrup as I eat it : )

Take a waffle, put ice cream on it, place another waffle on top of ice cream.

    Ice cream waffle sandwich.

  9. Lori Strong says:

My 'Favorite” topping turns the ordinary waffle into an experience! Growing up as a child, my favorite was to have creamed chicken on waffles, you have to try it & give it a chance, it's sooo good!

  10. mindyd says:

I love a warm waffle, topped with vanilla ice cream, topped with hot fudge sauce and whipped cream……delicious!!!

  11. chitou says:

Golden syrup, peanut butter, nutella, whiped cream, strawberries (marinaded in some alcohol + black pepper), vanilla ice cream, carmelized nuts and smarties sprinkled all over it

  12. Oh my Waffles, these look yummy.
My favorite topping is several actually, and if the waffles are well made I just eat them straight, but toppings: nutella naturally, jams nad marmallades, fruit, marmite or vegemite, ice cream, and one time we put tampico garnish on top (the one they put on sushi and it was great to be honest, different but good).

  13. chermelle says:

mix of strawberry and peach jam, boysenberry syrup and a little whip cream on the top

  14. lippy says:

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… waffles…

Hey, D! Lippy here. My fave waffle topping comes from my hometown of Lancaster Penna. And that'd have to be CHICKEN. As in, gooey chicken pot-pie ladled over a crispy waffle.

Can you send me one of these?

  15. My mother's hot cherries plus a bit of whip cream.

  16. Tyler Reed says:

Would it be lame to say maple syrup?? It's just oh-so-delicious. And not that nasty Aunt Jemima stuff!!

  17. I love Nutella and either raspberries or strawberries (or both!) with some whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon. Or simply butter with my grandmother's canned peaches (you could eat a can in less than 5 minutes they're that good) and powdered sugar.

  18. LollyD says:

Fresh Strawberries, Chocolate Ice Cream, and a few Almonds topped with Whipped Cream. MMMMMMMMMM

  19. G_Lo says:

We have a couple, both start with globs of Danish butter melting into every nook and cranny. His – All-natural Vermont maple syrup topped with shredded breakfast sausage…Hers – fresh ripe banana puree lightly sprinkled with freshly grated nutmeg…Chew slowly and savour!

  20. N. Pomeroy says:

If the waffle batter is really tasty, a light dusting of powdered sugar. If the batter is average, a single scoop of homemade sweet-cream or vanilla ice cream.

  21. mikegnome says:

I like using fruit preserves. Huckleberry or apricot are favorites. But generally anything that involves sugar is eaten.

  22. lukeirvin says:

Favorite topping is mixed nuts and chocolate chips with maple syrup. So so good ^_^

  23. Aaron Keogh says:

Dude, where was the cinnamon waffle!?

  24. I have to say my favorite is cream cheese and jelly. Something from my youth.

  25. tedbyars says:

Oh Strawberries, Nutela and Whipped Cream for sure

  26. Awesome Episode Daniel! Of course I watch it after eating my meager breakfast of lowfat milk and a banana. Speaking of which…. I love Banana's and Sugar, or Strawberries and sugar on my Waffle's!

  27. rachelhangad says:

more waffles with syrup and strawberries :P '''

  28. kizzle says:

    must be strawberries….mmmmmm strawwwwberries……

  29. leo_busta says:

Ah yes! Those deliciously juicy red wonders!

  35. leo_busta says:

Thanks, did I get to win a waffle kit?

  36. vendrtv says:

Awesome Paul! You'll probably be able to eat that breakfast for a long
time in comparison to the way I've been feasting!

  37. Susanna Amato says:

Dan, although it may not win me a kit and it may be extremely pedestrian, there's nothing better or more unique tasting to me than a slice of neopolitan ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) between two square waffles.

  38. Kevin May says:

I don't have waffles that much, but I love eating them. I like to put some scopes of icecream on top, chocolate syrup and whip cream. Mmmm.

  39. vendrtv says:

oh wow – never would have thought of that, though I do enjoy the combination! -dan

  40. vendrtv says:

    classic!

  41. vendrtv says:

Ha! An honest answer and a simply delicious combination.

  42. vendrtv says:

    Mmmmm! Yum.

  43. pamelamckenna says:

My favorite toppings are alltogether a schmear of peanut butter bacon and bannana. Thaen you drizzle on some real maple syrup. YUMMM!!!

  44. Savant360 says:

On cold winter days I like a thin spread of creamy peanut butter on my waffles and a drizzle of pure maple syrup. That combination is awesome and it will stick with you for a while.

On warmer spring or summer days I like a fresh fruit and a bit of whipped cream.

  45. Raven257 says:

I'll have mine with sliced bananas, brown sugar and strawberry yogurt, yummy.

  46. travelbytes says:

Depends on the waffle. If it is a Liege than nothing goes on top…nothing. :) A regular waffle gets good maple syrup. Yum :)

  47. Lisa-NL says:

Definitely strawberry icing with strawberries and whipped cream. But I also eat them the way they are, or with either hot cherries or hot caramel sauce. I'm so lucky to live in the Netherlands. My favorite is the Liege waffle. Btw Wafels & Dinges means Waffles and Thingy in english. =) It's dutch/flemish.

  48. [...] there have been a number of food trucks parked outside our office, including Rickshaw Dumpling and Wafels & Dinges trucks. I particularly enjoy the dumplings, but I plan to gradually try them [...]

  49. Mei Kay Kam says:

My waffle is simple. I would put honey and whip cream on the top of the waffle. Then i would put strawberries on top of that. Then, I would put a scoop of chocolate ice cream above the strawberries. From there I would fold the waffle and eat it like a sandwich. only problem is that i make a huge mess.

  50. Ben says:

I love waffles with sour cream and sugar!
