One of my favorite trucks in all of New York City is Wafels & Dinges, a little bit of Belgium that trolls through the streets of the Big Apple dishing out authentic waffles from two cities in Belgium. In this episode, Thomas DeGeest teaches me a bit about this history of the waffle, as well as it’s city of origin.
Want to win a box of Wafel & Dinges’ Komplete Wafle Kit leave a comment below describing your favorite waffle topper!

Mr. Thomas Degeest,
Congratulations !
Wij, mijn jongste zoon en ikzelf komen tussen 9 september en 13 september voor het eerst naar New York.
Wij willen er jouw wafels komen proeven.
Brusselse wafel met aardbeien en verse slagroom.

I like powdered suger on mine.
Hey the video is not smooth make possible the scroll of the bar so we can fast forward and rewind.
I did not know that belgian waffles are not called that in Belgium. Thanks for this episode. Awesome production value. Peace, Cory
I like pineapples and almonds on mine. Reduce the pineapple juice until thickened, add pineapple chunks and pre-toasted almonds. DELICIOUS.
There is only one way to really enjoy and that is with a nice topping of “Sirop de Liege”. I work on Broadway and will go searching for the Waffle Truck.
Thanks, Alain
I love chocolate, strawberries and bananas on my waffles!
SPEKULOOS!
I like to add honey to fig balsamic vinegar and let it reduce to a nice syrup consistency and then top the waffle with some diced strawberries that have bit sitting with a little crushed pepper corns (its that sweet and slightly hot flavor) then after you top the waffle with the macerated strawberries, top it with the fig balsamic and honey reduction. They add just a dollop of fresh whipped cream. And yumm.
Liege plain it doesn’t need anything on it, its that good already.
I would love to marry the wafel with my SouperMom chicken salad that has grapes and an element of garlic to offer a savory option for the Wafel truck. Yummmmmmmy! Too bad I’m in Memphis.
While in NY, I enjoyed the raspberry ice-cream with the strawberries and whipped cream. I’m still craving it right now.
Dear Annette: Could you kindly give us your recipe for SouperMom Chicken Salad? It sounds scrumptious! You’re making me hungry! Thanks so much.
butter, maple syrup, powdered sugar, a little whipped cream, vanilla bean ice cream.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Powdered sugar and strawberries make die wafel divine!
toppings i like on my belgian waffles are: strawberries, bananas, whip cream, and drizzled with chocolate, yummy!
Woohoo, I was in NY recently and ran into the Wafels & Dinges truck by sheer luck. I had the mini Liege wafel skewer with strawberries and banana… mmmm.. I’m still dreaming about the deliciousness
(PS.. i’m from South Africa)
Personally, I like a savory dinner waffle with some pulled pork, or better yet, honey and fried chicken!!!!
its too bad you dont have peanutbutter
i would love a nutella peanut butter and banana wafle
oh well, just glad you guys are going to be in madison square park again soon
Liege wafel with dulche de leche + speckuloos spread + butter. There’s a reason why they’re the top 3 toppings on the list!!!! YUM!!! = )
Goat cheese and fig jam …mmmmmm
I had smores with belgian chocolate drizzled on top of vanilla ice cream for the first time today… it was VERY yummy and very filling ^^
My favorite topping on the Liege waffle is Speculoos!
I love Nutella n whipped cream but butter on a hot waffle would be just enough.
Must have the Nutella on top!!
I like bananas and pecans on my waffles
the spekuloos spread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like strawberries, syrup, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and ice cream on my waffles. If I had to pick one though, it would probably be chocolate syrup.
A nice dollop of butter and maple syrup will go pretty far in my book… I live in Kentucky, and the Waffle Houses here don’t make waffles that look ANYTHING like the ones Wafels and Dinges make! So jealous…
I like making (in advance) a tiramisu diet cool-whip topping, for waffles (and was serving that as a cookie dip since 2005). Also delicious is a fruity topping made from a base of baklava syrup (oranges, ginger, sugar, honey, water, cinnamon, vanilla, cardomom & tinyiest pinch of coriander, boiled awhile) with pinapple, kiwi and banana. This second topping had my first child (now 30 — always a night owl and late sleeper) waking up at 7 am for breakfast, demanding tropical waffles (or pancakes.)
speckuloos is the best!
Just the regular Liege waffle
Jammer genoeg terug in België. Gisteren nog met een 20-tallige groep een wafeltje gegeten bij Bert aan Central Park. Heerlijk, die luikse wafel met slagroom !! Bedankt Thomas om een stukje België naar New York te brengen ! Grtz Björn
